5252 Coaches

Coachesprepare and train individual athletes or teams for competitive events. They areemployed by national and provincial sports organizations, professional andamateur sports teams, sports clubs and universities or they may beself-employed. This unit group also includes sports scouts who identify andrecruit athletes for professional sports teams. They are employed byprofessional sports organizations.

Mainduties
Coaches perform some or all of the following duties:
Identifystrengths and weaknesses of athletes or teams
Plan,develop and implement training and practice sessions
Nurtureand develop athletes' potential skills and abilities
Develop,plan and co-ordinate competitive schedules and programs
Motivateand prepare athletes or teams for competitive events or games
Formulatecompetitive strategies, develop game plans and direct athletes and playersduring games or athletic events
Analyseand evaluate athletes' or teams' performances and modify training programs.
Sports scouts perform some or all of the following duties:
Identifyand recruit developing athletes for professional sports teams
Observeand evaluate prospective athletes' skills and performance, and review theirpast records
Filereports on scouting assessments and recommendations with professional teamemployers.
